Prevention of Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force
WHEREAS, the State of Vermont must provide a statewide leadership in addressing the problem of domestic and sexual violence; and
WHEREAS, the Governor recognizes the need to continue to develop and enhance Vermont’s comprehensive sexual violence prevention education for adults, support healthy sexuality, and provide accurate and consistent messages for youth that promote healthy behaviors; and
WHEREAS, the Governor desires the council of private citizens knowledgeable about sexual and domestic violence prevention and education to promote bystander behavior giving adults and young adults tools and information to hold each other accountable to nonviolent, respectful relationships and interactions;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Peter Shumlin, by virtue of the power vested in me as Governor, do hereby establish the Governor’s Prevention of Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force solely to provide all Vermonters with the tools they need to prevent violence in their communities. To these ends, I direct the following:
- The Governor’s Prevention of Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force will consist of up to 11 members, all of whom shall be appointed by the governor and serve at his pleasure.
- The Council shall meet with at least four times annually.
- The Governor shall annually appoint one member to the council to serve as Chair.
- Members of the Task Force shall receive no compensation for their service.
This executive order shall take effect upon signing.
