A Proclamation
Whereas, the President of the United States has designated January 2011 as National Volunteer Blood Donor Month;
Whereas, the American Red Cross Blood Services Northern the New England Region and healthy, eligible citizens work together to maintain the blood supply for those in need;
Whereas, it is through the efforts of generous blood donors that the American Red Cross can provide for those in need;
Whereas, the American Red Cross faces the growing challenge of recruiting sufficient numbers of blood donors to meet the ever increasing demand for blood; and
Whereas, frequent periods of blood shortage across the nation have served to underscore the importance of a committed corps of volunteer blood donors,
Therefore, I, Peter Shumlin, Governor, do hereby proclaim the month of January 2011 as
Volunteer Blood Donor Month
in Vermont and urge all healthy and eligible Vermonters to take cognizance
of this event and participate fittingly by donating blood.
