Economic Progress Council, Vermont

Establishing Statute: 32 VSA § 151: 11e - 5930a-k

Department: VEPC is an independent board. However, by statute, it is "attached to the Agency of Commerce and Community Development for administrative support".

Description: The Vermont Economic Progress Council (VEPC) is an independent body that includes a nine-member board appointed by the Governor and 24 regional representatives (non-voting) designated by the regional development corporations and planning commissions. VEPC was originally created by the legislature in 1993 to provide a forum for the private and public sectors to work together to create a long-range economic plan and agenda for the state. VEPC provides biannual updates to the long-range economic plan, including recommendations for budget, policy and statute changes to reach the goals of the plan. Since 1998, VEPC has also administered the Economic Advancement Tax Incentive Program, which offers tax incentives for companies to locate or expand in Vermont.
