Governor’s Highway Safety Program

EXECUTIVE ORDER

(Governor’s Highway Safety Program)

WHEREAS, under state and federal law, the Governor is responsible for the administration of the State’s Highway Safety Program and may designate an appropriate agency through which the State’s program may be administered; and

WHEREAS, the Governor may designate a Governor’s Representative for Highway Safety to implement the State’s Highway Safety Program; and

WHEREAS, the funds administered by the Governor’s Highway Safety Program have increased tenfold since 1996 from approximately $600,000 in fiscal year 1996 to approximately $6 million in fiscal year 2004; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Safety remains the most appropriate agency to administer the Governor’s Highway Safety Program; and

WHEREAS, the increase in the funds under administration warrant the appointment of the Governor’s Representative at the Commissioner level. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, James H. Douglas, by virtue of the power vested in me as Governor, do hereby designate the Vermont Department of Public Safety as the appropriate agency though which the State’s program may be administered, and do further designate the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety as the Governor’s Representative for Highway Safety.

This Executive Order supersedes Executive Order 01-96A dated January 5, 1996.

This Executive Order shall take effect March 20, 2003.
