Governor Phil Scott Recognizes Vail Resorts’ “Epic Promise for a Zero Footprint”

July 25, 2017

Montpelier, Vt. – Governor Phil Scott issued the following statement today, recognizing Vail Resorts – operator of 11 mountain resorts and three ski areas, including Stowe in Vermont – for its comprehensive sustainability commitment, dubbed the "Epic Promise for a Zero Footprint."

“Vail Resorts may be a new addition to the Vermont business community but its ‘Epic Promise for a Zero Footprint’ demonstrates the company understands that the value of creating good jobs, attracting visitors and making smart economic investments goes hand-in-hand with our state’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

“This type of leadership in the business community is tremendously valuable in our work to meet our carbon emissions goals, which I recommitted to last week through an executive order that created a climate change commission charged with building a strategy to meet these goals. The commission will also look for opportunities to leverage our environmental initiatives to grow the economy, make Vermont more affordable and ensure we do not leave anyone behind.

“Vail Resorts is out in front with this impactful initiative and illustrates the opportunities to make progress on this issue in ways that also support economic growth. As more companies look to reduce or negate their environmental footprint, it is crucial for Vermont to be a destination with an affordable renewable energy grid to partner with companies and achieve our shared goals.”
