Montpelier, Vt. – Governor Phil Scott today issued the following statement:
“This afternoon brings news of another mass shooting. Today at least nine students and one teacher were murdered at a school outside of Galveston, Texas. This news has, unfortunately, become routine in America, but we cannot allow it to feel ‘normal.’
“Our nation is in the grips of an unacceptable epidemic of violence and we must find the courage to confront it. We must be willing to talk to one another, to listen to one another and be committed to understanding and resolving the root causes of violence that are killing our children in their classrooms. If we cannot, if we refuse, then we’ve failed the people and the values we’re charged to protect. My prayers are with the victims and families, my thoughts are with the entire Santa Fe High School community and today – like all Vermonters – my heart is in Texas.”
