STATE REHABILITATION COUNCIL FOR THE BLIND & VISUALLY IMPAIRED

Description: This council shall review, analyze and advise the designated State unit regarding the performance of responsibilities of the unit under its title, advise the State agency and unit, assist in the preparation of applications, the State plan, it shall conduct a review of and effectiveness and consumer satisfaction with vocational rehabilitation services and functions performed for individuals with disabilities. The council shall submit a report to the Governor, coordinate and encourage more coordination within the other councils in the state.

Membership

The State Rehabilitation Council (SRC) for the Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired (DBVI) consists of statewide representation from business and industry, rehabilitation service providers, consumers of rehabilitation programs, parents of consumers, consumer membership organizations, the state education agency, and disability advocacy groups.

Established in 1980, the Council is charged with reviewing and advising DBVI regarding the performance of their responsibilities relating to the effectiveness of services provided, and functions performed that may affect the ability of individuals with disabilities in achieving employment outcomes. In partnership with DBVI, the Council helps develop and review State goals and priorities and evaluate the effectiveness of the vocational rehabilitation program. Other important functions of the Council include assisting in the preparation of the State Plan and needs assessment, evaluating consumer satisfaction with services and employment outcomes, coordinating activities with the activities of other councils within the State, and preparing and submitting an annual report to the Governor and the Commissioner of the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA).
