Montpelier, Vt. – Governor Phil Scott and the Department of Public Service today announced the launch of EnergySaver.vermont.gov to provide resources, links and practical advice to help Vermonters save energy and money by heating and cooling their homes more efficiently.
“With winter right around the corner, it’s a good time for Vermonters to take steps to save energy as they turn up their thermostats for the season ahead,” said Governor Scott. “This new website will help Vermonters identify ways to conserve energy and save on home heating.”
The website provides suggestions for a variety of cost-effective projects that can be done with or without the help of a contractor. This includes mechanical explanations of water heaters, furnaces and other systems, correct usage of insulation materials and new technologies to help reduce fossil fuel consumption. The website also includes information on accessing rebates and incentives to assist Vermonters in making home heating improvements.
“Every winter Vermonters face the challenge of keeping their homes warm and stretching their energy dollars to do it,” said Public Service Commissioner June Tierney. “This new website is loaded with practical information about how to use, and spend, less on energy to keep your home warm.”
Heating and cooling homes more efficiently can also help make homes more comfortable and keep people healthier. Health issues such as asthma and mold allergies can result from inconsistent airflow through leaky walls, basements and attics.
“Leaky building shells cause cold, uncomfortable drafts, which drive people to turn up their thermostats,” said Efficiency and Energy Resources Director TJ Poor. “The site explains how buttoning up these areas, or weatherizing, provides a cozier home while saving money.”
