Montpelier, Vt. – Governor Phil Scott today announced the appointment of Hal Colston as Representative for the Chittenden-6-7 district serving the City of Winooski and parts of Burlington in the House of Representatives. Colston, a Democrat, will serve the two-seat district along with Rep. Diana Gonzalez (P).
Colston, a resident of Winooski, was appointed to fill the seat vacated by former Representative Clem Bissonnette, also a Democrat.
“Hal has dedicated much of his life to public service and improving the lives of people in his community,” said Gov. Scott. “As a city councilor and executive director of SerVermont, Hal has made it his mission to advocate for equity and justice for all, and I look forward to working with him in the Legislature.”
“It’s an honor to receive this historic appointment from Governor Scott to serve the people of Winooski in the House of Representatives as the first African American man from Chittenden County to be seated,” Colston said. “I’m excited to get to work and I believe my experience and perspective will be an asset in the General Assembly.”
Colston will be sworn in and seated in the House of Representatives tomorrow, January 23, 2019.
Keeping with practice, Governor Scott selected a replacement from the same party of the departing legislator.
