Statement from Governor Phil Scott for Independence Day

Montpelier, Vt. – Governor Phil Scott today issued the following statement:

‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.’

“Two hundred and forty-three years ago, these words changed the course of history, and they exemplify the standard we still strive to meet today.

“As we pause to honor the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, let us not forget those who had the courage to confront tyranny and further the cause of freedom and unity. Today, let us renew our commitment to these words and to continue our search for a more perfect union. 

“I’d like to wish all Vermonters, a safe and happy Independence Day.”
